I’m still here! Life just got crazy for a bit. I had a patient the other day ask me if Christmas was taking forever to get here or if it was flying by too quickly. He said, “When you’re little, Christmas can’t come fast enough. Once you get older, you blink and it’s gone.” I think I’m inching closer and closer to blinking and it being gone. We’ve been so busy with… I’m not exactly sure what. 4 days left and I’m trying to soak in every bit of my favorite time of year. I did manage to finish my Smooth Sailing trousers!
These trousers are the first item in my Vintage Inspired Four Piece Mini Capsule Wardrobe. The whole process was pretty enjoyable. I used a black linen so I can wear basically any color top I want with them. I miraculously had a metal zipper in my sewing stash that helped make these feel even more vintage. I chose to make them with the cuff, though I’m thinking about changing that when I get some free time. I’ll definitely have to wear heels, but I’m cool with that, heels make me feel sophisticated.
The pattern was pretty easy to follow… until I got to the waistband. I wouldn’t be surprised if I was just reading it wrong, but man I got confused. I read it over and over again and finally winged it. I added two buttons on the side with the zipper to keep the waistband together. I haven’t made the belt that goes with it yet, but I’m sure that will help make the waistband look more polished. I purchased a gold belt buckle that I’m pretty excited about, as excited as you can be about a belt buckle.
I love how it fits around my true waist. The challenge will be finding shirts thin enough to tuck in, because these really fit my true waist… like really, really. The wide leg is also another favorite of mine. The length may end up being too long, but that’ll be an easy fix! A little hem here, a little hem there and all will be well.
I hope to post one more time this week and then it’ll be quiet around here until January 4th.
Lots of love and Christmas cheer to you all!
