Mimi In Progress

It’s finally time for me to work on a sewing project again! If you read my last post you know I bought fabric that didn’t give me all the usual excitement. After spending time with it and giving it a good wash, I actually think it’s perfect for my Mimi blouse. I bought a black washer linen that, after washing, has a nice softness to it. It’s pretty lightweight which makes it great for summer and great for winter with the addition of a cardigan. I’m waiting on the buttons to arrive, but I CAN’T wait to sew them on… well I’m actually nervous about sewing buttons, but I can’t wait to see them on the blouse.

I began this project with more confidence than usual. Two weeks back I had the privilege of helping a friend with a dress she is making. She tends to make quilts and asked if I could help her understand the pattern. I completely understood, I’ve had my fair share of head scratching moments while trying to understand the foreign language of a pattern. As I walked her through the steps I realized how much I’ve learned. I actually understood the instructions! I’m learning that If I just take a project one step at a time I’ll be alright. It’s when I think too far ahead I start to become overwhelmed. This experience gave me such a boost of confidence I was up sewing my Mimi blouse until midnight this past weekend!

I realized while getting this post ready I didn’t take any pictures of me actually sewing the Mimi blouse. I really made it myself ;). I do have a sneak peek for you though! I’ll be posting the full blouse in a week, along with the Mathilde blouse I’m making my sister-in-law. I’m really proud of this Mimi and can’t wait for you to see it in it’s fullness!

Next up is the Mathilde blouse. I’ll have some sneak peeks of it for you on Thursday. And I’ll do my best to take some more action shots.

Until next time… :)

  1. Isn’t it a great feeling when you are teaching someone else something and you realize, “WOW, I really understand this now!” Good on you! Keep it up and I look forward to seeing your blouse!

  2. Taking a project one step at a time is very good advice. I don’t have a Mimi yet – it’ll be good to see yours! Hope I don’t miss it because I’m awful with reading blogs lately!!

    • It’s actually been one of the most satisfying things I’ve made so far! You should give it a go. I’ll be posting it and my Mathilde on The Monthly Stitch as well, so maybe that’ll help you see it! :)
