Independence in Nashville

We spent this past weekend celebrating Independence Day and going on adventures in Nashville. Nashville, TN is one of our top favorite cities. We had forgotten how much we missed it until we approached it’s skyline this past Thursday night. Some of the highlights from our trip include: McKay’s, fireworks with family, Music City Hot Chicken Festival, and catching up with old friends.

McKay’s is one of our favorite bookstores. You can take your used books/DVDs/records/etc. and trade them in for store credit or cash. We always use store credit, it’s like getting free movies and books. Who wouldn’t want that? I skipped right over the movies for once and went straight to the fashion section. I found some wonderful books I can’t wait to use this fall when I try to home school myself :). Two favorites from that stack are The World of Fashion and The Complete Fashion Sourcebook which shows you fashion from the 20’s to the 80’s – it’s so wonderful.

I surprisingly got a little sewing in this weekend as well. My husband has to wear scrubs at his new job and I had the pleasure of hemming them for him. I didn’t have the right color thread and he needed them by this morning so I chose a light grey. It was kind of a big deal for me to do this. I’ve never hemmed pants for someone. It wasn’t difficult, but it was a special moment for me. I was able to meet a need by doing something I enjoy.

Finally, it’s time for the big moment! It’s time to reveal the winners of the Local Giveaway! Drum roll please ….. Third place, Hop City gift card, goes to Liz. Second place, Steel City Pops gift card, goes to Lauren. First place, Big Bad Breakfast gift card, goes to Amy. Thank you to everyone who entered! I will be contacting the winners and mailing out the gift cards this week.

I hope you all enjoyed your weekends and have fantastic Mondays!

  1. Love that you got to use your gifts to help someone out! Reminds me of a quote by Frederich Buechner– “Vocation is the place where our deep gladness meets the world’s deep need.”
