I have happily made another Clemence skirt! It has become one of my favorite patterns. I think one reason I love it so much is because I get to make the pattern. I honestly feel way cooler than I am while making it. I act like I’m a designer and I’ve come up with this skirt all on my own. But reality always sets in when I’m frantically shuffling through Tilly’s Love at First Stitch trying to figure out what to do next. I only have two more patterns to make from her book, but after making the Clemence for a friend I was a little jealous of it and wanted my own. :)
For my fabric I chose a cotton voile from A Fashionable Stitch. It was my first purchase from Sunni and I’m so pleased with it! I love looking at her shop. She always has such great, colorful fabrics. It’s hard for me to not buy them all! When I saw she had this fabric with birds I knew it would be perfect for my first The Monthly Stitch challenge.
The Monthly Stitch is a community of women who love to sew and take on sewing challenges. Each month there’s a different challenge and once you complete the challenge you post your creation on the blog for everyone to see. I thought it would be a great way to spice up my sewing and to get involved with other sewing bloggers. This month the challenge is to sew something with a bird on it, which is where my cotton voile with a bird on it comes in.
To be real with you, I got super cocky making this skirt. I thought, “Oh, I’ve done this before. It’ll be a piece of cake.” Well that piece of cake got thrown right into my face. I think my first Clemence skirt was better executed than this one, but there’s still something special about knowing I made it. One pocket doesn’t fall exactly where it should, but shift the skirt a little, add a cardigan so no one sees the out-of-place back zipper, and VIOLA! no one knows. ;)
I like to think of this as my happy spring skirt.
As I mentioned in my last post, my husband is my photographer. After he graciously snapped these pictures of me I rewarded him, and myself for all the posing I had to do, with this margarita pitcher. They had a deal: one pitcher for one free plate of nachos. Who could pass that up? Exactly. :)
Cheers to sewing, creating, and to lovely spring!
